In May 2020, the Tyler Court of Appeals reversed a trial court judgment in favor of a Plaintiff and remanded the case for a new trial. The case arose from a motor vehicle between a dump truck and a pickup truck. An Upshur County jury awarded Plaintiff $21,765,732.44 in compensatory damages.

In August 2020, the same Court of Appeals reversed a trial court judgment in favor of a Plaintiff and remanded the case for a new trial. The case arose from a motor vehicle collision between a Semi Truck and a pickup truck. An Upshur County jury returned a verdict for Plaintiff totaling $101,361,337.09.

Upshur County is located about 125 miles east of Dallas. Our law firm was not involved in either case but both verdicts captured big headlines when they were delivered, and lawyers around the State of Texas took notice.

The decisions by the Tyler Court of Appeals to overturn these verdicts were far less publicized. Given that the headlines in 2020 have been dominated by the pandemic and the presidential election, we just wanted to make sure you did not miss these important decisions by the Tyler Court of Appeals.
